I attended a wedding last weekend. It was of my friend from college. The ceremonies were held in the Maharashtrian style. It was something new for a south Indian. The first thing that striked me was the use of mic for introducing the family. There was actually a compere who was reading out names out of a list. It was more of an entertaining wedding for all of us (south Indians).
Unlike South Indian weddings, here the groom and the bride exchange their mala (or garland whatever) first and all the guests are asked to go and have the lunch. Once they are all gone, they take the saat-phere. Also the wedding ceremonies generally last for more than one day. That is not the case in south Indian weddings.
I have another wedding to attend next week. It'll be in Delhi. This time it is a north Indian wedding. Lets see what is in store for us.
